Atlantic County is a beautiful coastal area that provides many options for things to do and places to visit for residents, family, and other guests. Check out these highlights. (Click on the picture to visit the associated website for each.)
Located 1/2 mile from the clubhouse, Historic Smithville is a delightful village providing 50 shoppes and a number of dining options. The flagship dining establishment is the historic Smithville Inn, which dates back to 1787. The village also hosts over 30 special weekend events throughout the year, such as a Renaissance Faire, Oktoberfest, and Holiday Dickens Fest.
Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, located two miles from the clubhouse, protects more than 48,000 acres of southern New Jersey coastal habitats. More than 82 percent of Forsythe refuge is wetlands, of which 78 percent is salt marsh, interspersed with shallow coves and bays. The refuge’s location in one of the Atlantic Flyway’s most active flight paths makes it an important link in seasonal bird migration. Admission is free for seniors who have an America the Beautiful National Park pass.
Atlantic City Hotel-Casinos, accessible within a half hour's drive from our community, offer world-class dining and entertainment in addition to the excitement of the gaming tables. Take a stroll on the historic Atlantic City boardwalk, enjoy the Steel Pier attractions, or relax on the free beach.
At the extreme north end of the Atlantic City strip lies a hidden gem known as Historic Gardner's Basin. Situated across from the state marina and Coast Guard station, this scenic waterfront park offers dining by the bay, fishing, sightseeing cruises, and parasailing throughout the summer. The newly reopened Atlantic City Aquarium is a central attraction of the area, providing visitors of all ages the excitement of discovery of marine wonders.
Brigantine Beach, only 20 minutes from the 4 Seasons community, is an example of a clean, white sand, family-friendly beach. Beach badges are available at a reduced rate for those aged 62-64, and are free for residents over 65 years of age! Other lovely nearby beaches that provide you an opportunity to stick your toes in the sand and breathe in refreshing salt air include those in Ocean City, Margate City, Ventnor City, and of course Atlantic City.
Walking Bird Farm is a family owned and operated farm, raising 40 acres of vegetables, berries, flowers and herbs, located in Galloway Township. This farm, similar to a number of others in the immediate area, offers seasonal u-pick produce and a farm store with locally sourced products. They also host a number of special arts and music events throughout the year.
Storybook Land is a theme park based upon childhood nursery rhymes and stories that is fun for all ages. Family-run and open since 1954, it is a local treasure, and only a 20 minute drive from our clubhouse. Don't miss the magical Festival of Lights, which runs from late November until New Year's Eve every year!
All 600+ animals at the Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary in Mays Landing are rescues. Most would not be alive if it wasn’t for the Funny Farm. Nearly all of them roam free and are allowed to make friends with other rescues like them. Visit with the local characters, make a donation, and help keep the Funny Farm alive and growing. The Funny Farm is in Atlantic County, 25 miles from the clubhouse.
Taking advantage of the semi-rural region, Atlantic County is home to nine breathtaking vineyards and wineries. Some are large, others are small, but all have their own unique character. Most host musical and other special events. Relax and enjoy nature while sipping excellent local wines.
There are twenty-two golf courses within 20 minutes of our clubhouse. Public or private, 9 or 18 holes, you have your choice of challenging courses.
Batsto Village is an historic site in the South Central Pinelands of New Jersey. It is known throughout the country, both for its beauty and its historical significance. Batsto has roots dating back to 1766, with nearly two and a half centuries of American history available for visitors. It is located a half hour's drive from the Four Seasons Community.
Traveling? Several airports are within easy access of Four Seasons. The closest one is Atlantic City International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. Larger airports that allow you to visit virtually anywhere in the world are Philadelphia International (just over an hour's drive) and Newark Liberty (about an hour and a half drive).
